Signs, Doors & External Fittings

Choosing natural materials for signs, doors and external fittings gives your home a timeless appeal.

External design and architectural finishes can change our appreciation of a building and how we feel in it. First impressions count and using natural materials like solid wood emphasises timeless design and effortless welcome. Selecting the right wood type can also mean that external fittings can last through the harshest weather and be seen for generations.

The external work that we carry out is often commissioned by home-owners, architects and builders. We work to your specifications and measurements, undertaking site visits if necessary to make sure that projects are delivered seamlessly.

External Oak Door

This project was a joint collaboration with a former furniture school student James (Black Bear Bespoke Furniture) for a client in Mersea Island, Essex. A brief and design were provided for an exterior-grade European oak front door. Hand delivered to James for installation, these Gothic-inspired doors give a warm welcome to anyone visiting.

Barge Boarding

These decorative barge boards are proudly hanging in the heart of the Peak District, at the Wriggly Tin Holiday Home in Miller’s Dale. This unique tin clad railway building was in need of replacement period barge boards to bring the exterior back to its former glory.

Created from sapele, templates of the original boards were taken to precisely recreate the boards. The new boards were constructed from thicker wood stock to better handle the British weather and a deep chamfer along the weather-facing side to add a more delicate look to these hefty boards.

Painted in white and hanging in place these boards are the first thing you see when arriving at the Wriggly Tin.

We work on a range of external fittings, signs and doors. Our designs and capabilities include but aren’t limited to: solid wood doors and surrounds, barge boards and fascias, fitted direction signs (internal and external), signposts, house address and name signs.

Each of our bespoke freestanding furniture items is made to order from entirely customised designs. Because of this we can only offer guide prices on projects on the website. Pricing for your bespoke project will depend on the size of the piece, the complexity of the project and the materials and finishes used.

Each of our designs is supported with a 3D CAD design to give you a full visual before installation. Our How To Commission page details our full design process.
